The discovery of “FIRE” by humans
With the discovery of “FIRE” by humans in the beginning, mankind began to travel along a path toward civilization and the development of energy. During the course of history, it has been evident that the development of new energy forms has been closely related to the advancement of civilization. In the past, the industrial revolution was driven by the utilization of fossil fuels, like coal, while in modern times, an excessive reliance on petroleum has led to various problems such as oil shocks due to limited resources.

It would be no exaggeration to say that, despite such circumstances, the cost-effective energy, made available by the advancement of nuclear power technology, has enabled Korea to achieve tremendous and dynamic economic development since the 1970s. Nuclear Power is free from generating greenhouse gases, and it is an energy source that can supply massive amount of electricity, with the lowest cost.

Since its establishment in 1982, for the purpose of supplying nuclear fuel to domestic facilities, Korea Nuclear Fuel Company (KNF) has been committed to technological innovation and the localization of nuclear fuel. KNF is now self-reliant in terms of reactor core design, fuel design and fuel production, including manufacturing of cladding tubes. At present, KNF supplies nuclear fuels to all Korean Nuclear Power Plants, while the nuclear power, forming 40% of the total electric power in Korea, feeds the growth engine for every sector in national industry.
