cladding tube in Non-san city.




KEPCO NF(President Kim, Ki Hak) is about to construct a factory for Zirconium Alloy Tube which is a core component of nuclear fuels by going into partnership with Non-san city.
President Kim, Ki Hak of KEPCO NF and mayor Hwang, Myeong Seon of Non-san city had a ceremony of signing and concluding a contract for the construction of the cladding tube factory at Non-san city hall in the 17th of January. As the cutting edge component factory for nuclear fuels of KEPCO NF which is a public enterprise moves into Non-san city, it is expected that it would activate the local economy and greatly contribute to creating employment of the local talented.
President Kim, Ki Hak clarified "that this factory construction is to satisfy the increasing demand of Zirconium Alloy Tube as UAE signed a contract with KEPCO consortium to build nuclear power plant in the end of 2009 and new domestic nuclear power plants increased; 74 billion-won business expense is to be invested in it; its construction is planned to start in the beginning of this year and to operate the factory from 2015."
In accordance with the conclusion of the contract that day, KEPCO NF will firstly construct the cladding tube factory at a site of 107,123m² (about 32,400 pyeong) in the second general industrial complex in Non-san located in Seongdong-myeon, Non-san city; is expected to successively build both the factory of the high-tech nuclear fuel core components such as PHWR(Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor) Tube and a manufacturing line of Leading Tube and the factory of Steam Generator Heat Pipe if a business plan is confirmed hereafter.
The factory of Zirconium Alloy Tube which will be constructed this time has 600 km size of an annual output. This company has operated the cladding tube factory with 1,400km-production performance of an annual output since 2009 and has supplied the whole quantity required for domestic nuclear power plants. Zirconium Alloy Tube is a tube to wrap pellet that is a raw material of nuclear fuel, and an item whose international transaction is strictly controlled because it is classified as an essential strategic resource. This company successfully completed the localization of its manufacturing techniques in 2008; is obtaining 40 billion-won import substitution effects a year; is supposed to export it to the U. S., a suzerain State of nuclear power, from this year because its quality and technology have been globally approved.
