KNF promotes international standard on new technology for radioactive waste disposal Kepco NF(President & CEO Lee Jae-hee) has announced that the company is planning to establish the international standard on their new developed technologies such as radioactive waste solidification method and radioactive waste management process. ‘Radioactive waste solidification technology’ has been developed jointly by Kepco NF and Chemicon. It is possible to minimize the increase in volume about 20%, so reduction of disposal cost is anticipated after commercialization. The company already obtained the domestic patent, and prepaing for the international one for the technology. The other one, ‘radioactive waste management process’ is a way which manages the process from waste occurrence to disposal. After registering international standard, it would be possible to present the international guideline to build radioactive waste management process and waste certification program for the facilities which produce radioactive waste. President & CEO Lee Jae-hee said, “It is a great achievement which makes it possible to inform the excellence of our radioactive waste disposal technology. We will continuously strive to provide a boost for Korea’s status in the area of international standards by preparing thoroughly. In addition, KNF’s ‘Gadolinia content measurement method’ was adopted as an international standard in 2012. It passed the final stage successfully with unanimity of 13 ISO members. In case of regression calibration method that the company proposed for international standardization is about to entering the stage 4 among 6 stages, so the company expects to establish the standard in 2017. |
