KNF develops uranium refinement & separation technology using individual technique

- The first development of ‘TBP solvent extraction process’ for uranium refinement

- KNF expects export of technology and equipment as well as import-substituting effect with securement of individual technique

KEPCO NF(President and CEO Lee Jae-hee) said that KEPCO NF developed uranium refinement & separation technology for the first time in Korea.

Refining process is a kind of chemical process which separates and purifies uranium through solvent extraction method. KNF has performed an efficiency test after five years of establishment of experiment equipment in addition to solvent extraction process and equipment design. As a result of the test, uranium that was gone through the purification process have met the purity which is required in nuclear fuel manufacturing process.

CEO Lee Jae-hee said “This achievement is the result of years of hard work to create new-value over nuclear fuel design and manufacture. Lee added ”We are going to expand the field of business through steady research and development on the basis of safety.

If uranium which is being kept in KNF is purified, it looks for uranium import-substituting effect about 29 million dollars. Also, KNF anticipates securement of individual technique of nuclear fuel cycle business and export of technology and device in the long term.
